A month after arrested TMC MP Kunal Ghosh tried to commit suicide by consuming ‘sleeping pills’ in his solitary cell in Alipore Correctional Home, the three member inquiry committee is yet to submit a report on the incident. Ghosh, who was lodged in one of the high security zone cells in the correctional home, is a Rajya Sabha MP and one of the prime accused in the Saradha scam. The three-member inquiry committee led by state home secretary Basudeb Banerjee has now decided to meet on December 29 to finalize the report.
While contacted, state correctional services minister, Haider Aziz Safwi said, “I am yet to receive the report from the inquiry committee formed to probe the suicide bid by Kunal Ghosh”. Pradip Mitra, Director, PG hospital and a member of the committee said, “I am not the convener of the committee. I will attend the meeting whenever it will be convened.”
He added that the meeting had been delayed as Basudeb Banerjee had fallen ill.
Meanwhile, a police case was filed in Hastings police station under section 309 of IPC after Ghosh’s suicide attempt. However, the case may be dropped following the decriminalization of suicide attempts. The CBI sources meanwhile said they are yet to get any information on the suicide bid by their under-trial prisoner Kunal Ghosh. Ghosh was also mentioned as one of the ‘main conspirators’ in the scam.
After the incident, the correctional services department stepped up the vigil on Ghosh, protesting which Ghosh had started hunger strike inside the jail. Ghosh did not eat anything during the period between December 4 to December 6 and finally he fell ill with a dip of fluid content in his body.
