Dayton Flyers forward/center Devon Scott (40) warms up during practice before the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament at First Niagara Center.

The Dayton men's basketball team has dismissed starting center Devon Scott and backup big man Jalen Robinson from the team following a violation of team rules, the university announced on Wednesday.

ESPN.com is reporting that the two players are alleged to have been involved in a dorm room theft incident.

"I'm extremely disappointed in Jalen and Devon. Their actions do not reflect the behavior we want in our program," Dayton coach Archie Miller said in a statement. "Our student-athletes are given every opportunity to be successful on and off the court. Despite ample opportunity to do so, their actions demonstrate they chose not to take advantage of that. More important than wins and losses, it's about members of our program being committed to represent the University of Dayton in the manner we all expect."

The losses are huge for the Flyers, coming off a surprising Elite Eight finish in last season's NCAA tournament. Dayton (7-2) was an expected contender in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Without Scott and Robinson, no player is taller than 6-6 on Dayton's roster.

Scott was averaging 9.1 points and 7.4 rebounds a game, while Robinson was averaging 3.2 points and 2.4 rebounds.

"Being a student-athlete is a privilege, and these two men forfeited that with their unacceptable behavior. They have let down their teammates, their coaches, the University and the fans, but most importantly they have let down themselves and their families," Dayton vice president and athletics director Tim Wabler said in a statement.
