Clippers win series against Pacers for first time since 2004-05 season
The Clippers beat the Indiana Pacers, 102-100, on Wednesday, winning their season series against the Eastern Conference team for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
The Clippers, who trailed by as many as six points in the fourth quarter, went on a 12-2 run beginning just past the midway point of the fourth quarter to take a four-point lead. During that stretch, the Clippers held the Pacers scoreless for nearly four minutes.
With 34.9 seconds left, C.J. Watson made three free throws to cut the Pacers’ deficit to one, 99-98. J.J. Redick responded by making two free throws for the Clippers, putting them up, 101-98, with 15.8 seconds left.
Watson made a layup with two seconds left, cutting the Clippers’ lead to one once again, 101-100. Redick was then fouled immediately and made one of two free throws. With 1.7 seconds left, C.J. Miles missed a three-point attempt from the right side.
Neither team shot particularly well from the field, with the Pacers slightly edging the Clippers, 44.4% to 43.6%. The Clippers outrebounded the Pacers, 51-43.
Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 31 points and 16 rebounds. DeAndre Jordan had 23 rebounds to go along with 15 points.
The game featured seven lead changes. The Clippers led by as many as nine points in the first quarter, but were only up by one at halftime, 52-51.
The Clippers have Thursday off before playing at Denver on Friday.
