The Gurgaon Police on Wednesday received a call about bombs planted at the HUDA City Centre metro station and a shopping complex at Sushant Lok-I here. The calls later turned out to be hoax.
Metro services to the station remained curtailed for close to three hours, causing immense inconvenience to commuters. An unidentified man called up the police control room at 2.10 p.m. saying he had planted bombs at HUDA City Centre, the last station on the yellow line, and the neighbouring Vyapar Kendra at Sushant Lok-I.
“Police teams were immediately dispatched to the two places and search operations initiated. Three cars were found to be parked suspiciously and preliminary search indicated there could be explosives in them. Upon this, metro services were halted and a bomb disposal squad was called in. But nothing incriminating was found after a three-hour search at both places,” said Police Commissioner Navdeep Virk.
“An announcement was made on the public address system in the metro, requesting all passengers to get down at the IFFCO Chowk metro station due to security reasons. So I got down at IFFCO Chowk and walked till HUDA City Centre, where I had parked my car,” said Dhananjaya Kumar, who works with the Public Works Department in Delhi and was returning home.
With the area being cordoned off, commuters had to wait for hours to board the train. Traffic near the two places was also diverted.
Mr. Virk said that efforts are on to identify the caller. “Since the call was not made to 100, the phone number used has not been identified. We are making efforts to trace the caller.”
