PUNE: The district supply office (DSO) has seized over 100 domestic LPG cylinders which were being used for commercial purposes.
The officials conducted raids in Pimpri, Kharadi, Chandannagar, Indapur, Hadapsar and Walchandnagar following a tip off.
Jyoti Kadam, district supply officer, said: "Our office has been conducting regular checks across the district. About 103 cylinders have been seized so far. All the seized cylinders were meant for domestic use, however, at the time of raid, they were being used for commercial purposes.
Our officials have confiscated the cylinders and filed cases under Essential Commodities Act 1955", Kadam said.
"In Kharadi and Chandanagar, the cylinders were being refilled in an illegal manner for unauthorized use. In Walchandnagar, domestic cylinders were being used in industrial units, while at other places, it was found that cylinders were being used in hotels, eateries and roadside food stalls. When checked, offenders failed to produce the relevant details, like address of supplier and registration number," Kadam said.
She said local authorities in respective teshils in rural parts have been asked to conduct inspection drive at industrial areas and market places. "The district supply office has warned of strict action against use of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes. It is not only illegal but also dangerous," officials said.
