Two-minute silence for Pak kids

As a mark of respect to the 132-odd children who were gunned down in Peshawar a day ago, children of various schools and madrassas across the state observed two minutes of silence on Wednesday.

In the Kendriya Vidyalaya School Number-1 at Harni in Vadodara, students gathered to hear Principal D S Bhati condemn the Peshawar attacks apart from observing silence during the morning assembly session. “I spoke about the terror act in the assembly to condemn the attack and make the students aware about what happened on Tuesday. We extend our solidarity to the families in Pakistan,” Bhati told The Indian Express.

Students of New Era School in Vadodara will be participating in a special paragraph writing session on “Terrorism” on Thursday. On Wednesday, the school “sensitised” its students about the evils of terrorism and observed the two-minute silence. Coordinator Pradnya Gokhale said, “We talked about the evils of terrorism in our students through the public address system and classes of grades IX and X discussed the terror attack in their respective sessions. On Thursday, classes from grades VIII to X will put down in writing their thoughts about the terror attack.”

In Surat and Navsari, students from schools and madrassas observed silence along with their teachers. Maulana Kesar Alam of Khwaja Dana Darul Uloom said, “We condemn the killing innocent children. Islam does not teach of killing; it is a religion of brotherhood. We have carried out prayers in our Darul Uloom as a mark of respect.”

In Ahmedabad, private and government schools observed a two-minute silence during the morning assembly session. The deputy commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Ahmedabad region said, “Students of all KV schools expressed their grief as they observed silence for two minutes in the assembly. Through the day, the feeling of bereavement among students was also seen with anguish against such a terrorist attack on students as well as concerns over safety of school children.”
