Police continue to investigate the theft of an antique Bible from a Guelph thrift store.

The theft occurred nearly two weeks ago, when somebody smashed the glass at Bibles for Missions, grabbed the Bible – but nothing else – and made a break for it.

It’s suspected that they had knowledge of the 150-plus-year-old Bible’s rarity and worth, as it had been on display at the store for some time.

The theft may be unsolved, but staff at the store say they’ve received plenty of good news since news of the burglary broke.

“The outpouring from the community has been absolutely amazing,” said general manager Robyn Pyrczak.

“We tend to hear of that one person who brought us down. All the wonderful people who have brought us back up create a truly wonderful feeling.”

One woman walked into the store and gave employees $1,000 in cash to fix the damaged window.

Another man brought in an antique Bible of his own, and donated it as a replacement.

“He decided that it would be of more value … in our store.,” Pyrczak said.

Both donations were made anonymously.
