CALANGUTE: The woes of shack operators along the Candolim-Calangute beach belt who face the perennial problem of low voltage is likely to be a thing of the past with the commissioning of three new 200 KV transformers at Calangute and
Candolim.
While the first transformer was inaugurated at Sauntavaddo, Baga, last month, the second was commissioned last Saturday at the main entrance of Candolim beach.
The third is scheduled to be commissioned later this week at
Calangute.
Talking to TOI, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said the shacks along the beach stretch always received low voltage owing to overutilized transformers. The three new transformers are expected to solve the problem of erratic power
supply.
The Calangute-Candolim beach-belt has more than half of all the seasonal beach shacks in Goa. The load on the power distribution network increases manifold during the tourist season resulting into voltage fluctuations and
breakdowns.
Besides the transformers, electricity department has also started installing high-powered lamps on poles along the beach to provide illumination so as to ensure thesafety of both residents and tourists.
