MUMBAI: The BMC inspection of the controversial Sukhada and Shubhada cooperative housing society in Worli, supposed to take place on Thursday, has been postponed at least for a week. This is because the Worli police said it would give protection only after the civic body gives them a detailed plan and the number of police personnel required seven days before the inspection day.
Top politicians like late BJP leader Gopinath Munde, former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, former forest minister Patangrao Kadam, former food and civil supplies minister Anil Deshmukh, his son Salil Deshmukh, governor of Punjab Shivraj Patil, state Congress chief Manikrao Thakre, NCP vice-president Anna Dange, former minister of state Pratapsingh Mohite Patil, former state Congress chief Ranjit Deshmukh are the members of the society.

Of the 25 members, about 12 have complied after the BMC asked them to remove the illegal extensions in their respective flats. The BMC issued notices to them about two years ago. The G-south ward office had sought protection from the Worli police for its personnel who would inspect the Sukhada and Shubhada housing society on Thursday to see whether or not the rest of the members had complied with the civic directive.
Keshav Ubale, assistant municipal commissioner of the ward, said, “We will write to the police and ask for one sub-inspector and 4-5 women and male constables for the inspection. As some flats would be locked and we need to open them for inspection, we have to get a ‘panchnama’. It cannot be done without police force,” said Ubale.
