Waisale Sigawale was the lone male in the Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation in Labasa yesterday.

“At first seeing that I was surrounded mostly by females, I was terribly shy most of the time,” Mr Sigawale said.

“I eventually got used to the fact that I was the only iTaukei male nurse student.”

The 24-year-old from Nadroga thanked his tutors and his family for helping him get through the three challenging years of study.

“I also want to thank Almighty God for giving me the opportunity to experience this passionate profession and I encourage more young iTaukei males to try this noble profession.

“I have no regrets in entering this field of nursing and I thank the Government for giving out scholarships to help tertiary students’ dreams come true. We should all have a heart to serve others. I now look forward to get a job and further my studies and use my knowledge and skills to make Fiji a better place to live in,” he said.

Eighty student nurses graduated with Mr Sigawale yesterday.
