Mohali MC cracks whip on encroachments

MOHALI: The municipal corporation (MC) has started issuing notices and penalizing offenders for illegal encroachments. Under a special drive on Tuesday, the civic body collected more than Rs 2.50 lakh.
Notices were issued to residents for carrying out illegal constructions.
The MC has also promised to crack the whip on corrupt staffers. A senior MC official said, "Residents had alleged that some MC staffers were taking bribe from roadside vendors.We have now replaced the old staff and there is more transparency in work." "If residents come across any MC employee demanding bribe, they can lodge a complaint against him or report to us through a toll free number," the official added.
Unauthorized constructions or roadside vendors were now being removed by the MC with the help of a private company. A MC official said, "We will not tolerate any unauthorized constructions. We are targeting to make Mohali the most beautiful city in the country."
