BELAGAVI: There is good news for
KSRTC and
BMTC bus commuters with the state government deciding to reduce the fares considerably following a cut in diesel rates recently.
The reduction is expected to be in the range of Re one to Rs two per stage. The KSRTC had hiked the bus fares by 8% and BMTC by 15% in May this year.
Its learnt that chief minister
Siddaramaiah made the announcement of reducing the bus fares at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting here on Wednesday.
He said transport minister
Ramalinga Reddy had been asked to discuss the issue with the department officials on the quantum of reduction. Congress sources said Reddy has asked the KSRTC and BMTC to prepare a revised fare chart by next week following reports that state-run oil companies are expected to cut diesel prices further next week. The department is planning to ensure that even private players reduce their fares.
