Gardaí have formally identified the two people whose bodies were taken from the River Lee near Cork City centre on Sunday night.

They were 27-year-old Michelle O'Riordan, who was originally from Mayfield in Cork, and 53-year-old Patrick O'Driscoll, who was from Skibbereen in west Cork.

Post-mortem examinations on their bodies have also been completed.

The results are not being released at this stage.

Investigating gardaí will compile a file for the coroner's office, and an inquest into the deaths will take place later.

Ms O'Riordan and Mr O'Driscoll were last seen on 4 December.

They had both been using the services of homelessness agencies in Cork prior to their disappearance.

The post mortems are believed to have revealed no indications of violence and their deaths are being treated as a tragic accident.
