Putin to take part in Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, CSTO summits December 23

MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and in the Collective Security Treaty Organization summit on December 23, the Kremlin press service said on Wednesday.

The CSTO summiteers “will discuss the strengthening of allied relations and regional issues.” During the summit, Tajikistan will hold the presidency in the CSTO, the Kremlin said.

The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council heads of state will take decisions on aspects for starting the Council’s work from January 1, 2015. After the meeting the Russian, Belarusian, Kazakhstani, Armenian and Kyrgyz presidents will hold a press conference.

On October 10, at the EEC summit in Minsk Putin invited his counterparts to the Russian capital to take part in the next summit. “My most esteemed colleagues! I invite you to hold our next sitting in Moscow in December where we could complete the process,” he said.

The Eurasian Economic Union should start working on January 1, 2015.

According to earlier reports, the summiteers are expected to sign an agreement on Kyrgyzstan’s joining the Customs Union and the common economic space.
