It is a proud moment for Marathi cinema.
Shivaji Lotan Patils National award winner 'Dhag' and Dr Mrunalini Bhosales 'Kapus Kondyachi Goshta' are among the 10 Indian films which have made their way into the eligibility list to contend for the Best Picture category at the 87th Academy Awards in February, 2015. The recently released list by The Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences has 323 films.
'The Lunchbox', 'Jal', 'Kochadaiyaan', 'Youngistaan' and 'Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain' are some of the other films that are competing.
Debutant Bhosale, whose film won 11 National and international awards even before its theatrical release, said, Its a proud moment for the cast and crew of the film. Coming from a non-filmi background, even after my film received so much appreciation worldwide, the thought of sending it to the Oscars did not cross my mind and I did it only after well-wishers urged me to do so. I am really thankful to them. Elaborating on the films appeal, she added, The film fit into all the criterion required such as its week-long screening in Los Angeles. My film talks about women empowerment which is a universal issue.
Talking about his film, 'Dhag' director, Patil said, Your film being chosen out of so many other films undoubtedly gives a prestigious feeling. We are keeping our fingers crossed and are hoping for the best.
