Omnibus stand to be shifted to Neelambur

Three Temples To Be Shifted For Flyover Work
Omnibus stand to be shifted to Neelambur
COIMBATORE: To facilitate the construction of Gandhipuram flyover, the city corporation is planning to shift the omnibus stand functioning on Sathyamangalam Road to Neelambur, near hotel Le Meridien. The civic body also plans to shift three roadside temples in Gandhipuram that obstruct the construction of the flyover.
“The national highways department had acquired a 13-acre land near Neelambur for the L&T bypass construction a few years back.
But since that land is not being used by them, we have proposed to either rent or lease that land for the temporary functioning of the omnibus stand,” said a higher official. Once the council sanctions this, we will immediately speak to the officials and the shifting would take place in a month’s time, added the official. The current omnibus stand is on a 1.5-acre land near the Sathy Road.
The omnibus stand would continue to function at the proposed site near hotel Le Meridien till the Vellalore integrated bus stand is ready. When the national highways department was contacted, the officials said that the proposal has been sent to the central government for approval.
“Another major shifting will be that of the three temples situated in Gandhipuram. The Muniyappaswamy temple and Siddhivinayagar temple on Nanjappa Road and Kannanoor Maariyamman temple near the Gandhipuram bus stand that are obstructing the construction of the flyover will also be shifted. They have been allotted a 1335.5-sqm land on the Maariyamman Street and Chellappan Street in ward 72 in the central zone.
“Since the temple trust asked for land, we have allotted corporation-owned land to them which they could buy from us and use it for the construction of the temple,” said an official at the corporation. These temples belong to the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments department and were constructed on public land, added the official.
