A 13-year-old runaway orphan from a children's home in Sion was allegedly kept captive for a month and was repeatedly violated. The minor girl was finally rescued from Khar on December 13 by the police after she was spotted with her tormentor, identified as Dhanesh Kanojia, 27.

According to Sion police, the survivor who was been living in a children's home in Sion, had gone to her school on November 11. However, instead of returning to the children's home after her classes, she allegedly ran away and reached Dadar station. When Kanojia allegedly spotted the girl roaming aimlessly on the platform, he approached her and offered help. "Kanojia lured the victim and took her to Virar and kept her with a woman who was known to him," said a police officer.

When the victim did not return, the worried caretakers of the children's home approached the police station and registered a missing complaint. "We sent her photographs to all the police stations. On December 13, we received information that she was spotted at Khar with a man. The girl was then rescued and Kanojia arrested," said the police officer.

During the investigation the victim informed the police that Kanojia had taken her to houses of two different women. She also told the police that Kanojia forced himself upon her a number of times in last one month. "We have arrested Kanojia and have booked him for kidnapping and molestation under relevant sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual offences Act," said an officer. He added: "We believe that she was also raped repeatedly by Kanojia. Once the medical reports from doctors confirm it, we will book him for rape as well." The victim has been admitted in Sion hospital for treatment.

The primary medical report prepared by Sion hospital states that the girl was sexually assaulted. "There is enough evidence to prove that she was sexually assaulted over a period of time. There was no fresh wound though. She said that there were more than two tormentors. Presently, she is under observation. We have not decided when to discharge her," said a senior doctor from the gynaecology department.
