Vehicular traffic on arterial roads in the twin cities went for a toss due to traffic diversion on the occasion of Cabinet expansion and supporters of newly inducted Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav taking to the streets to celebrate his elevation on Tuesday.
Traffic on Sarojini Devi road leading to Begumpet and Punjagutta was thrown out of gear for hours together as motorists struggled to reach their destination. It was bumper to bumper from Paradise crossroads to Punjagutta junction as the Metro Rail works coupled with a huge procession by supporters of Mr. Talasani held up traffic.
His supporters travelling in mini-buses, cars and jeeps parked the vehicle opposite the Chief Minister’s office since Tuesday morning. A procession comprising decorated elephants, horses and dance by Lambada women brought the traffic to a grinding halt. So much so, the police switched off the signals at several junctions.
The road towards Raj Bhavan from Punjagutta and Khairatabad were blocked as barricades were put up by police. Vehicular traffic coming from Khairatabad was diverted through Somajiguda and Erramanzil Colony towards Punjagutta and Ameerpet. Same was the case with motorists trying to go towards Raj Bhavan.
Office goers were a harassed lot as the vehicles moved at snail’s pace. The traffic snarl continued till afternoon. After the swearing in ceremony at Raj Bhavan, a large procession was taken out by Mr. Talasani’s supporters.
Flexis all overThe flexis of new Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao and Srinivas Yadav were displayed all over the roads near the Raj Bhavan. The roads bustled with their supporters who turned up in large numbers. A function hall on Raj Bhavan road was hired to provide food to the crowd that turned up from various places in Khammam district in support of Mr. Nageswara Rao.
