PANAJI: With the arrest of Abdul Aziz Khan on Tuesday by the Economic offences cell (EOC) of Goa police, the number of those arrested in the alleged Dr Sandra Desa Souza’s ancestral land grab case at Porvorim has increased to four. A fifth person is on the run while three were arrested during the last six months.
The main accused, Moses Fernandes, is allegedly involved in three other land grab cases investigated by EOC, including Goa's first Arjuna awardee Dr Otilia Mascarenhas’ ancestral land grab case.
An EOC officer said that the property originally belonged to Francis Desa D’Souza, resident of Chowpatty, Mumbai. Francis is the husband of Sandra. He migrated to Mumbai long back and died in April 2013.
One of the five accused, Francis Alvaro D’ Souza, resident of Ponda, allegedly forged the irrevocable power of attorney (POA) in the name of Moses. Later, Moses allegedly sold the property to Esteven Elvis D’ Souza, resident of St Cruz, and Abudul Aziz Khan, police said.
The EOC officer said that the total area of the property is 1,525 sq m. The officer said that the accused executed the deed of sale on November 11, 2013. The victim came to know about the sale of their property when some unidentified person started cutting trees in the property. The EOC officer said that they have arrested Esteven, Francis, Mohammad Suhail and Abdul in the case and are on the look out for Moses. tnn
