Back He Is: Yoda Set For Star Wars: Rebels Return

Frank Oz will reprise his role as sage Jedi Master Yoda in Disney XD animated series ‘Star Wars Rebels’.

TV Guide reports that the character will return to advise the series’ lead characters Kanan and Ezra on the remote planet of Lothal.

Unfortunately however, Yoda will only “appear” as a disembodied voice.

"I felt personally to keep Yoda as this disembodied thing it would confuse the audience less," says executive producer Dave Filoni, who also directed the installment. "I didn’t want you to think Yoda could be teleporting from planet to planet."

'Star Wars Rebels' takes place between the original and prequel trilogies at a time when the few remaining Jedi are in hiding. Yoda - as we discover in 'The Empire Strikes Back' - is on Degobah.

"By keeping the voice very present and active, you do feel that it’s a watchfulness and that he’s speaking to you from afar," continued Filoni, "and I didn’t want anyone to think that he had left Dagobah.

"It was on the outer rim of what we do, but I think we were able to pull it off."

There will be other ways that the show pays homage to the series - including the show producer’s last series ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ over the coming episodes. Yoda will make his appearence in an episode set air in the US on 5 January, 2015.
