IPL: Dropped legends cause big splash in auction pool

Yuvraj, Pietersen, Dinesh Kartik, M Vijay, Ross Taylor and Cheteshwar Pujara will be going back into the auction pool.

Several big-name players who were big-money signings last year have been released by their respective Indian Premier League franchises. Yuvraj Singh, Kevin Pietersen, Dinesh Kartik, M Vijay, Ross Taylor and Cheteshwar Pujara will be going back into the auction pool as franchises decided not to retain them. The injured Zaheer Khan, Pragyan Ojha, Amit Mishra, Irfan Pathan, Aaron Finch and Darren Sammy too have been let go. Delhi Daredevils have released the most number of players (13). Sunrisers Hyderabad have let go 10 players, Mumbai Indians 8, Royal Challengers Bangalore 7, Rajasthan Royals 6, Chennai Super Kings 4, Kings XI Punjab 3 and Rajasthan Royals 3.

Delhi Daredevils

Purse: 40 crores

Kevin Pietersen was their new captain last season but the results didn’t go their way as they finished at the bottom in the IPL 7. Delhi had bought Dinesh Kartik and Pietersen for 12.5 and 9 crores respectively but the team is now looking for a smaller squad with lesser price tag on it.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Purse: 21 crores

Releasing Yuvraj Singh will help them regain Rs 14 crores from the purse and help them to buy out more players in the auction, Yuvraj had a decent showing for RCB with 376 runs but despite having star line-up, team didn’t qualify for eliminator. Other players released are Albie Morkel, Ravi Rampaul, Sachin Rana, Shadab Jakati, Tanmay Mishra.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Purse: 28.85 crores

The franchise has not retained legspinner Amit Mishra, who was the second bowler to cross 100 wickets in IPL. The team has released 10 players, including Aaron Finch (Australia), Darren Sammy & Jason Holder (West Indies), Brendan Taylor (Zimbabwe), Irfan Pathan.

Chennai Super Kings

Purse: 5 crores

CSK hasn’t altered their side much as they have released just three Australian players, David Hussey, John Hastings and Ben Hilfenhaus. And the only domestic players not retained was all-rounder Vijay Shankar. They have an auction purse of 5 crore available to them.

Mumbai Indians

Purse: 10 crores

It was expected that MI will not retain Zaheer Khan as he is yet to play a game since IPL-7. It is unclear why Ojha wasn’t retained in the squad, though. MI had released their three wicketkeepers Ben Dunk, Sushant Marathe and CM Gautam among others

Kolkata Knight Riders

Purse: 13 crores

KKR hasn’t changed much of their set up. They had traded their mediumpacer Vinay Kumar to Mumbai Indians in October while Jacques Kallis had been appointed as their mentor. The domestic players to be released are Debabrata Das and Sayan Mondal.

PUjaraAin

Kings XI Punjab

Purse: 11.8 crores

The franchise had released Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Kartik and Laxmipathy Balaji.Interestingly, Kings XI didn’t buy any player during thetrading window. The release will help franchise to add 4.7 crores for 2015 auction and their auction purse is now 11.8 crore

Rajasthan Royals

Purse: 13 crores

The inaugural champions of IPL has released Brad Hodge, Kevon Cooper, Ankit Sharma, Amit Sharma, Ankush Bains whereas earlier they had traded Unmukt Chand to MI earlier and Iqbal Abdulla to RCB. The Royals have 13 crores in their kitty for the auction.
