Rao said the Rachakonda Hills would be developed as a ‘green city’

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to set up Cinema City and Sports City at Rachakonda Hills on the city’s outskirts after undertaking an aerial survey for over an hour over the area on Monday.

Mr Rao was accompanied by ministers P. Mahender Reddy, G. Jagadishwar Reddy and chief secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma.

He conducted a meeting with collectors, local MPs, MLAs and revenue officials from Ranga Reddy, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda districts after completing the aerial survey.

Mr Rao said that the government owns nearly 31,000 acres near Rachakonda and the place is suitable to set up industries and educational institutions.

However, he said, the government will take all precautions to ensure that the scenic Rachakonda Hills area does not get polluted due to launching of all these projects and will allow only projects that are pollution-free.

Mr Rao said the Rachakonda Hills would be developed as a ‘green city’.

Officials showed revenue records pertaining to the availability of lands in Rachakonda.

The survey revealed that the Rachakonda Hills is spread over 51,429 acres, of which 18,067 acres comprise the Rachakonda Fort area, while another 13,067 acres belong to reserve forests, 1,520 acres unreserved forests and 500 acres assigned lands.

Mr Chandrasekhar Rao directed officials not to trouble tribals and farmers who are doing farming there and ensure that the new projects are developed without disturbing the livelihoods of the people there.
