Mooppil Swamiyar laid to rest

THRISSUR: Thekke Madam Mooppil Swamiyar, Sankarananda Brahmanandabhuti, who attained samadhi here at a private hospital on Sunday 9.30 pm, was laid to rest on the south side of Thekke Madam premises on Monday noon. He was in treatment for heart related ailments for a while. He had sought medical help after he developed ill health during his recent pilgrimage to Kasi.
Three months ago, he had ordained Vasudevananda Brahmanandabhuti as his heir apparent and since then had spent time with him at Thekke Madam. Thekke Madam, earlier confined to Brahmins only, became more receptive in his influence, and its Saraswathi Mandhapam was opened to the public upon his directive.
He was born to Paandamparambath Manayil Nethran Bhattathirippadu and Umadevi Antharjanam in Malappuram district, but his family later shifted to Vellarakkode in Thrissur district. In 1982, at the age of 50, he was ordained by Thiruvillakkad Brahmananda Swamiyar into the lineage of Aadi Sankracharya Swamikal.
