KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that Nobel laureate poet Rabindra Nath Tagore's ancestral house at Jorasanko in North Kolkata would be preserved by the state government as a heritage site.
"Its a heritage structure. Also people from the country and abroad come here to visit this place. Thus we have decided to preserve this important house as a heritage site," Banerjee told reporters at the state secretariat here.

Since a campus of Rabindra Bharati University is located in this house, the state government has decided to relocate it to Rajarhat New Town area, Banerjee said.

"A plot of 10 acre land is being allocated to the university authority for the purpose," she said, adding that she had already discussed the matter with the Vice Chancellor of the university.
