Inmate convicted of murdering cellmate just hours before scheduled release |

Michael Ferrara Jr., just hours before he was to be released from prison, was strangled to death inside his cell. A jury decided Friday that Logan Murphy, Ferrara’s cellmate and a convicted thief with a history of mental illness, did it. Murphy, 23, had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but jurors rejected that defense and convicted him of aggravated murder in Ross County Common Pleas Court. But Ferrara’s family blames someone else, too: The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Thursday, midway through Murphy’s trial, the family’s attorney filed a lawsuit against the state.
