ALLAHABAD:
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will soon be introducing a new course on road safety. The Board will also be organizing a national film making contest on 'road safety in India' for school students and staff.
The course on road safety will include chapters on over-speeding, overloading, drunken driving apart from safety measures which will include use of helmets, safety for cyclists, reading and understanding of traffic signs and highway codes.
"CBSE has aimed to make road safety a national movement and it has already organised a series of activities on
traffic norms in schools. The proposal of lessons on road norms is now a part of the campaign to make the students aware from an early stage about road safety and reducing the number of accidents mostly involving
youngsters," said an officer at the Board's office.
He added that the proposal is under planning stage and the subjects will be decided by
NCERT. The Board has also started short
filmmaking contest with prize money of Rs two lakh for the winner, Rs 1 lakh for second runner up and Rs 50,000 for third. The winning entries would also be screened during the 26th National Road Safety Week running from January 11 to 17.
