SURAT: A police team has left for Madhya Pradesh to trap the accused who sold country-made pistols to a city resident who sold them further. Police had recovered 11 pistols and 46 cartridges from four persons on Thursday.
The four accused Mohammad Ilyas Bilal Kapadiya, Mohammad Vasim Shaikh, Mohammad Umar Abdul Razaaq Memon and Shamshad Raju Pathan were remanded to police custody till Thursday.
They were arrested by the vigilance squad of director general of police office on Thursday from Rander. Five pistols were recovered from Kapadiya while six others were recovered from the other three. Kapadiya allegedly used to bring weapons from a person in Madhya Pradesh.
"Police have sent a team to Madhya Pradesh to arrest the person who sold the weapons to Kapadiya to earn money. We are probing if more weapons were sold by him in the past," said in-charge deputy superintendent of police (vigilance squad) D S Chauhan.
In the past, Kapadiya was arrested by city crime branch with one pistol for illegal weapon trading. He was out on bail for the last few weeks and had started dealing in weapons again. Kapadiya bought one pistol for Rs 25,000 and sold it in Rs 50,000 and above. He paid Rs 5,000 commission to Shaikh and Memon. Pathan had allegedly purchased three pistols from Kapadiya for personal safety.
"Kapadiya used to bring the weapons to Surat for the last 12 months. It seems that he was in weapon business for many months and we will investigate his past dealings," added Chauhan.
