Christoph Waltz stays in character during ‘Big Eyes’ Q&A

Christoph Waltz — the Austrian actor who’s won two Oscars for his roles in Quentin Tarantino films — may be taking his latest part too far.

He stars in Tim Burton’s “Big Eyes” as Walter Keane — a real-life eccentric con artist who for years took credit for his wife’s popular paintings — and he acted bizarrely himself at a 92nd Street Y Q&A for the film on Friday.

Burton, moderator Dave Itzkoff and co-star Amy Adams seemed taken aback when a fan asked Waltz to describe his character and he shot back: “I refuse to answer . . . No, go see it!”

Another asked what it was like working with Tarantino and Burton, and Waltz refused to answer again.

Adams perhaps facetiously said she found Waltz’s strange answers “very helpful,” and a spy told us, “It was as if Waltz was playing Walter Keane onstage during the Q&A. He was practically as eccentric.”

The film has a New York premiere on Monday at MoMA, followed by a party at gallerist Larry Gagosian’s new Upper East Side restaurant, Kappo Masa.
