Repairs start on Hamelin Bay historic jetty ruins

Work has begun to repair historic jetty ruins at Hamelin Bay near Augusta.
The Hamelin Bay jetty was built in the early 1880s and was mostly destroyed by fire in 1921, before being further damaged in a storm in the 1960s.
The iconic timber piles and crossbeams were fenced off in September after an assessment revealed serious structural issues.
The Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPAW) consulted the public about the future of the ruins and decided to retain them, after receiving overwhelming community feedback.
The City of Busselton has provided aged timber from the original Busselton Jetty to restore five deteriorated crossbeams.
DPAW said further work to strengthen the jetty would occur in the near future.
