Most victims truck drivers or helpers

JAIPUR: Two of the deceasded, Vishal Bajaj (37) and Shila Chaupara belonged to Bani Park's Shiv Marg and Johari Bazar's Saunthali Ka Rasta in the city. One family from Jaipur rural's Achrol area which was travelling in a truck also fell prey to this horrifying mishap. Radhamohan Sharma (40), his brother's son Dakshul Sharma (6), Radhamohan's cousin Vinod Kumar Sharma (37) died.One of the truckers Sukhdev, a resident of Bihar, was identified on the basis of his license.
Most victims were either truck drivers or their helpers. Most of the injured were found fending for themselves as they were travelling alone.
Traffic remained disrupted for nearly 10 hours and resumed around 8 am. Police said traffic was diverted from Harmara after the mishap; however, hundreds of people were left stranded till early on Sunday with queues of vehicles up to 5 km on both sides of the accident spot.
Over a dozen fire-tenders were pressed into service and the blaze was contained around 5am on Sunday.
Around 9.30 pm on Saturday, a truck carrying LPG caught fire when it was rammed from behind by another truck carrying motorbikes. The explosion was so intense that people in a radius of nearly 5 km heard the sound, district collector Krishna Kunal said.
"We could collect only bones and body parts of some victims. The body parts were found scattered around in the morning," a police office said.
The officer said, "We are trying to identify the agency transporting the inflammable substance. We have lodged an FIR. Prima-facie, it has come up that the truck carrying motorbikes negligently hit the truck carrying LPG from behind. It caused a leakage following which the explosion took place. Nearly 10 vehicles on both sides of the road caught fire in the explosion," said the officer.
