Four killed, 14 injured in accident on Umred Road

Four people were killed and fourteen injured in a collision between a state transport bus and an overloaded truck on Nagpur-Umred Highway late on Saturday night.

NAGPUR: Four people were killed and fourteen injured in a collision between a state transport bus and an overloaded truck on Nagpur-Umred Highway late on Saturday night. Among the 14 injured, five are critical and undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) while the rest are admitted in the rural hospital.
The deceased were identified as Jyoti Dandekar (28, a resident of Mangalwari Peth, Umred), Ajay Gotefode (20, of Itwari peth, Umred), Deva Shivadiya (45, of Mangrul) and Yuvraj Chavhan (45, of Umred).

Injured Parag Borikar, Jagdish Waghmare and Gangabai Ramani are undergoing treatment at GMCH. The injured include two minor sisters, Nisha, 13, and Sonia, 12. Dilip Tejwani, Asha Tejwani, Abdul Gabi, Aniket Sirsikar, Satish Mandalikar, Rashid Shaikh, Ranjit Mankar and Parag Mane are undergoing treatment at rural hospital.
Police said that a truck carrying sand was heading from Umred to Nagpur when it collided with the ST bus going from Nagpur to Umred. Cops said that the truck was being driven rashly and took a sharp turn, colliding with the bus.
All four of those killed were travelling in the bus. The deceased include the bus driver.
Umred police have registered a case against the truck driver, who fled the spot and is absconding. Police suspect that the truck was overloaded. It is also feared that the truck driver did not have the proper license to transport sand.
