It was a full house at the House of Sphinx on Friday when hip-hop musicians converged for a nominees party ahead of Zim Hip-Hop Awards set for Wednesday at Wing Wah International Restaurant. Hip-hop musicians including Mudiwa Hood, Trae Yung, Maskiri, Tehn Diamond and Noble Styles among other upcoming hip-hop artistes were present on the night.

Zim dancehall producers including Punchline from HKD stable and PTK also graced the function.

The night saw Platinum Entertainment hosting the musicians, playing some of the musicians’ songs which were nominated.

Artistes who spoke to this publication expressed gratitude to the organisers of the event saying it meant that their efforts as musicians were being appreciated.

“I would like to thank Boss Spencer and everyone who made this possible, at least it shows that what we are doing is not in vain, at least we are appreciated,” said Faith Candy.

“We are happy with the recognition which we are getting as artistes and to show our appreciation we are going to continue producing good music for our fans and show that Zim hip-hop is here to stay,” said Maskiri.

Meanwhile, one of the organisers of the event, Spencer Madziya aka Boss Spencer, said they decided to host the party for the nominees as a way of showing their unwavering support to local music.

“We decided to host the Zim hip- hop nominees party since this is in line with our responsibility to support local music, firstly as Zimbabwean citizens and secondly as an entertainment company,” he said.

However, as it has become the norm, controversy has once again rocked the awards ceremony after allegations by fans and other musicians emerged that some nominees paid their way to be shortlisted.

It is set to be seen who is going to walk away the winner with Peekay leading the nominees with five nominations followed by newcomer Noble Styles with four together with Mudiwa Hood. Blackbird is leading the ladies with three nominations.
