Delhiites enjoy winters during second Raahgiri Day in Dwarka in Delhi
Delhiites stepped out in large numbers to enjoy the best of Dilli ki sardi at Dwarka’s second Raahgiri Day on Sunday morning. It seemed as if the early morning chill could not dampen any spirits as people took to the streets in their winter jackets and beanies in large numbers. In Dwarka, Raahgiri Day is an initiative by DDA and Delhi Police with knowledge partners Embarq and supported by the Times of India.
Here, the event seems to have become one major get-together as people join the celebrations, running into their old friends and catching up over extended morning walks. For many budding artistes, the roads doubled up as their stage and we saw many impromptu music and dance performances taking place. There was also no shortage of selfie moments through the two-hour-long event. In fact, we even spotted many Raahgirs using selfie sticks to get perfect group pictures. Kids from the Ekasha NGO performed in front of a cheering crowd and Asquare Dance Academy got everyone showing off their moves early in the morning. Zumba and aerobics sessions were also a big hit as people of all ages and backgrounds jumped with the music to burn those calories. Shashi, who was visiting her kids in Sector 4, came to the event with her extended family.
She said, “We’ve seen the Gurgaon Raahgiri, but this has so many more people! It’s the perfect family outing as there’s something for every member of the family here.” Sanjay Pathak, who’d come with his morning walk with his friends, added, “One doesn’t get to see so many people together in Dwarka. I am sure there are many people from nearby places too and I am glad Dwarka was picked as the venue for Raahgiri Day. We’ll hopefully have more activities here soon.”
