Poll bound Jammu and Kashmir saw a drop in mercury as Delhi experienced a shivering Sunday. A man died after being hit by lightning in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh.
J&K summer capital Srinagar, which saw polling in eight Assembly segments, recorded minus 1.2 degree minimum temperature, about a notch above normal.
Leh received 5 cms of snow and the minimum temperature witnessed considerable increase because of cloudy sky. But the maximum temperature dropped.
Delhi experienced a nippy Sunday with scattered winter showers coupled with chilly weather.
The night temperature that touched the lowest mark 5.1 degree C during the current season yesterday, rose marginally to 10.8 degree C, but the cold winds and rains today brought down the day temperature to 20.8 degree C, two notches below normal, the Meteorology Office said.
Hill state, Himachal Pradesh, experienced moderate to heavy snowfall at many tourist spots bringing the minimum temperatures to freezing point during the past 24 hours.
Manali recorded highest snowfall of 46 cm in this season followed by Kalpa 28, Bhuntar 21, Kasol 17, Keylong 16, Theog and Saluni 15 each, Seobagh 13, Bharmaur and Sarahan 10 each and Shimla 8 cms.
According to Met department, a minimum temperature of -2.1 degree Celsius was recorded in Keylong and -2.8 degree Celsius in Kalpa.
First showers of the season in Punjab and Haryana intensified the cold conditions prevailing in the region. Several places in Punjab and Haryana, including Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala, Panipat, Sonipat, Hisar, Bhiwani and Chandigarh, received heavy rainfall due to western disturbance.
Unseasonal rainfall in parts of Marathwada and rest of the State, which continued till late last night, destroyed standing crops and horticulture in the region. In Aurangabad district, blossoms of Keshar mango trees were particularly affected by the weather.
According to sources at the Chikalthana weather office, Aurangabad city recorded 14 mm rainfall till last night. Mainly dry weather is expected to prevail in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gengetic West Bengal, west Rajasthan, Gujarat and coastal Andhra Pradesh. (AGENCIES)
