Ranji Trophy 2014: Tanmay Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari tons put Hyderabad on top

Andhra reduce Kerala to 202/7 on Day 1; Assam 133/6 after Day 1 against Jharkhand.

Unbeaten centuries from Tanmay Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari helped Hyderabad end the opening day on 290 for one against Goa in the Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match, here today.

Put into bat at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Uppal in the four-day encounter, the D Ravi Teja-led Hyderabad lost opener Akshath Reddy (4) on 14 but fellow-opener Agarwal and Vihari stitched an unbeaten 276-run stand to put the hosts in command.

If the left-handed Agarwal was patient his his 300-ball stay then Vihari maintained a quick scoring-rate, striking 16
fours.

Goa pace spearhead Saurabh Bandekar was the lone wicket-taker, when he trapped Reddy LBW to give the only bit of success in an otherwise frustrating day for the visitors.

Goa captain Swapnil Asnodkar tried to juggle with his regular and non-regular bowling options, using eight bowlers in all, but failed to stop the Hyderabad surge.

Andhra take upper hand on first day against Kerala

Duvvarapu Shivkumar ripped through Kerala’s top order with a three-wicket burst as Andhra Pradesh reduced the visitors to 202 for seven in their first innings on the opening day of their Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match here today.

Put in to bat by Andhra, Kerala were reeling at 108 for seven before before tailender Raiphi Gomez and U Manukrishnan pulled things back with a 94-run partnership for the eighth wicket.

Gomez top-scored for the team with a 99-ball 74, which included seven fours and five sixes, while Manukrishnan held the other end with a 110-ball 28.

For Andhra, Shivkumar returned impressive figures of 3/43 in his 20 overs with C Stephen adding a couple of wickets which cost 40 runs in 23 overs.

Brief Scores: Kerala 1st innings: 202/7 in 85 overs (Raiphi Gomez 74 batting, Shivkumar 3/43).

Jharkhand reduce Assam to 133/6

Jharkhand bowled with purpose to reduce Assam to 133/6 even as Arun Karthik struck an unbeaten half century on the opening day of their Group C Ranji Trophy match.

Karthik was batting on 55 when stumps were drawn after only 53 overs of play owing to poor weather at the Nehru
Stadium.

Ajay Yadav and Samar Quadri returned figures of 2/21 and 2/46 respectively, while Rituraj Singh picked up one wicket.

Earlier, Jharkhand skipper Saurabh Tiwary had won the toss and opted to field.

First day’s play abandoned in Services vs Tripura match

The first day’s play of the second round Ranji Trophy Cricket tournament’s group league encounter was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to inclement weather.

The match officials couldn’t start proceedings despite multiple inspections due to poor light at the Palam ground.

Services won the toss and elected to field owing to overcast conditions.
