Day-old girl’s body found with injuries

MUMBAI: The body of a newborn girl was found abandoned, wrapped in a plastic bag, in a garden at Shanti Park in Mira Road on Saturday. The baby is not more than a day old, the police said.
The police suspect that the infant was hammered to death as her body, including her head, bore injury marks.
The body was discovered by passersby who alerted the police.The body was subsequently sent for autopsy.
A case has been registered at the Mira Road police station against unidentified people. To trace her parents, the police have started checking the records of maternity homes in the Mira-Bhayander region, Vasai-Virar as well as neighbouring Thane.
