Where's Louis Tomlinson? One Direction attend music awards as a quartet

The world's biggest boyband are in Cannes, France, this evening for the NRJ Music Awards at Palais des Festivals.

Mullingar man Niall Horan was joined by bandmates Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik on the red carpet this evening.

Earlier, Louis took to Twitter to apologise to fans in Cannes for his absence, saying he was ill.

"Been sick all night. Still really unwell. Absolutely gutted!!. So sorry to let our fans down at NRJ. :( sorry :( hope the lads smash it !!" he said.

Several hours later, he posted: "Thanks for all the lovely messages !! I've felt shit all day but all the get well soon stuff is cool :) I just gotta get right for the final."

The final he is referring to is the X Factor final which is due to air tomorrow night and at which One Direction will perform.

Louis' absence comes a month after bandmate Zayn Malik missed part of a promotional tour of the US with a stomach bug.

His bandmates appeared on NBC's 'Today' programme where host Matt Lauer grilled them over Zayn's absence.

He also questioned them about rumours of "substance abuse".

Liam Payne refuted any suggestion of this - and said Zayn had a stomach bug.

Zayn later took to Twitter to say he was "upset" by Lauer's line of questioning.
