THANE: Starting Monday, Thane Municipal Transport’s (TMT) air-conditioned (AC) buses will travel between Thane and Dadar. The buses will make eight trips daily between five localities in the city and reach Dadar in approximately 90 minutes, using the Eastern Express Highway.
The TMT recently inducted five more AC Volvo buses to its fleet and decided to ply them on the Thane-Dadar route.
One bus each has been reserved for Kolshet, Dhokali, Lodha Complex, Vrindavan and Dharmveer Nagar. The fare for one-way point to point trip is Rs 75-85 depending on the distance.
Commuters are likely to get an alternative service apart from the railway network and the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) services from limited areas in the city. The transport undertaking also hopes to attract commuters, who presently travel by cabs or use their own vehicles to travel to and from Mumbai.
“There was a long pending demand from Thane commuters to start services to Dadar. Instead of operating all buses from one location in the city, we decided to run them from different spots so that commuters don’t have to undertake additional travel to reach the bus stations,” said Devidas Tekale, manager of TMT.
The Thane-Dadar-Thane bus service follows the existing Thane-BKC and Andheri east routes introduced by the undertaking recently. Following the good response to BKC and Andheri routes, the undertaking is hoping to earn good revenue from the Dadar service as well.
