PATNA: A disabled man working as an assistant in State Bank of Hyderabad was shot dead on way to his office on Buddha Marg around 10am on Saturday.
Amitesh, 35, was riding his specially-designed two-wheeler when two motorcycle-borne criminals accosted him near the GPO end of Buddha Marg flyover. The pillion rider whipped out a revolver from his jacket and fired at Amitesh.
He instantly slumped on the ground. The injury was so serious that he succumbed to it before he could be brought to PMCH.
Patna SSP Jitender Rana said CCTV footage showed the assailants speeding towards Gardanibagh after committing the crime. Police teams searched the Gardanibagh area, but in vain. The SSP said police are working on an angle to ascertain the motive behind the crime. But he refused to divulge details. Kotwali police station has registered a case of murder against unknown persons.
Meanwhile, prisoners of Beur jail in the state capital ran helter-skelter for safety when warder Patrick Minz, stationed at watch tower number 7, fired a shot from his rifle without any reason around 11am. Jail superintendent Shivendra Priyadarshi and other officials rushed to the spot and found Minz to be in a drunken state.
He was allegedly unable to even stand properly.
