PATNA: The grandpas and grandmas couldn’t have been more delighted as the tiny tots of Gyan Niketan put up a scintillating show in their honour at ‘Grandparents’ nite’ held on the school campus on Saturday evening. About 120 students participated at the programme on the theme ‘Save wild animals’.
A skit based on ‘Jungle Book’ by Rudyard Kipling was also staged on the occasion in which students Piyush Raj, Arnave Anand, Manthan Vats, Aakrit Sandilya, Ketan and Rinit Raj played main roles.
The event was anchored by Pragyan Pratyush, Sudhanshu Pradhan, Abhigyan and Naman Kalra. Chief guest on the occasion was CBSE, Patna, regional officer Rashmi Tripathy, who said such events are a good platform for students to showcase their talent.
Honorary doctorate: Super 30 founder Anand Kumar was conferred the honorary Doctorate of Science (DSc) degree by Karpagam University, Coimbatore, on Saturday in recognition of his work with the students from underprivileged sections of the society. Vice-chancellor S Subramanian said every year the university confers DSc on persons of eminence for their outstanding contribution to society. Altogether 308 out of 360 students from Super 30 have so far made it to IIT.
Accepting the honour, Kumar said it would give him strength and encouragement to carry on with his mission. “When I was a student, my father dreamt of seeing me acquire higher education, but the quirk of fate did not let it happen. Today, the university has conferred this degree, which is an honour,” he said. A couple of months ago, Kumar was also invited to Cambridge, UK, and MIT and Stanford in the US to deliver lectures.
Science exhibition: Working and non-working models of various science concepts were put up on display at a science exhibition held at Holy Mission School on Saturday. Some of the projects appreciated by the visitors were rocket launcher by Aman and smart city model by Rahul and Aman Pushp. Some other models were: magnetic rail, building life, solar cooker and battery-run candle etc.
Sports meet: Little girls of RPS Girls’ Public School here took part at the junior sports meet held on Thursday. As the balloons went high, there was enthusiasm among girl students.
The meet was followed by an impressive parade and welcome dance presented by small girls dancing like peacock. Wind mill race, frog race, make-up race, ring the cone race, pickup the cone, cap race, 100m race, arrange the ring ball race, balance the ball race, jumping race, pickup the ball race, relay race, passing the ball race, hurdle race and skipping race were the highlights of the sport meet. Brazil drill, bum bole drill, fan drill, daphlee drill and karate performance were also highly appreciated. Later, principal Madhu Thakur gave away prizes to the winners and proposed a vote of thanks.
