PATNA: ‘Paron ko khol ki zamaana udaan dekhna chahta hai, zameen pe baithkar tu kya aasmaan dekhna chahta hai ...’ These were the words of wisdom shared by state education minister Brishen Patel with the students of 161-year-old St Joseph’s Convent (SJC) High School at their annual cultural programme on Saturday evening.
A rainbow of colourful programmes was put up by the Josephites on the occasion and parents couldn’t stop applauding throughout the function.
The event commenced with invoking of the blessings of the Almighty through a prayer song and prayer dance and a qawwali ‘Kun faya kun’ lent a Sufi atmosphere to the programme. The programme was anchored by class XI students Ankita Jha and Amara Subul.
Empowerment of the fairer sex was depicted through an action song, ‘We shall overcome’, which was interspersed with poems, and girls had also dressed up as Indira Gandhi, Rani Lakshmibai and Mother Teresa. English play ‘The Monkey’s Paw’ highlighted that people should not get swayed by superstitious beliefs while Hindi drama ‘Bhatkan’ gave the message of respecting elders and bridging the generation gap to protect Indian culture. Other highlights of the event were ‘Indian ballet’, ‘From Fetters to Freedom’, ‘Breathless’ and ‘Kathak’.
State education minister Patel, whose granddaughter also studies in the same school, said, “The future belongs to girls as they are excelling in all fields.” The minister also said Bihari kids have a lot of talent and they only need an opportunity to prove themselves. School principal Sr Lucina and provincial superior Sr Vimla were also present on the occasion.
