AAP sends notice to BJP for defamation

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party has served a legal notice to BJP for attempting to defame the party by raising questions about funding
.
BJP had accused AAP of accepting foreign funding even though the pervious government in the Center has absolved AAP of these charges. More recently, the current government's home ministry stated in court that AAPs funding did not violate any laws.
The notice sent by AAP states: "You devised a novel method of making libellous allegations asking the media and proposing to ask the finance minister to further probe into highly libellous and defamatory insinuations against the party".
It goes on say, "For instance, you had stated inter-alia, that my client indulged in procuring funds from Arab and other Gulf countries and Pakistan through hawala, misusing funds for promoting Naxalites, etc and that its convenor Arvind Kejriwal is a liar, nautanki baaz, prepared to mislead public, obtained the prestigious Magsaysay Award from funds of Ford Foundation besides dubbing him as a CIA agent, misappropriated various funds raised through undesirable means."
Party sources said that BJP had been asked to tender an apology to AAP and hold a press conference to publicly take back its accusations. It has also challenged BJP to reveal its own sources of funding, claiming that 75% of its funding comes from unknown places. "We have given them a week to respond to our charges failing which we will file criminal charges against BJP representatives," said a party spokesperson.
