VARANASI: Two Jaunpur youths who had gone to a remote village of Deoria district on the invitation of a girl with whom one of them had come into contact through Facebook, were murdered and their bodies thrown in the Ghaghra river by her kin. The incident took place on December 4 and police suspects it to be a case of honour killing. Police claimed that one of the killed youths was in touch with the girl on Facebook while his family claims that the friendship had developed through telephonic chats.
The incident could be a case of honour killing as the girl’s family forced her to call her friend after which the killings took place, police added.
Reports said Ankit Singh of Madhi village under Chandawak police station in Jaunpur district had come into contact with a girl of Percia Devar village under Barhaj police station in Deoria about six months back. The call detail record of the phones of Ankit and girl checked by the police revealed that they were in regular touch. When this came to the knowledge of the girl’s family, they forced her to call Ankit. On December 3 the girl asked Ankit to visit her village. Ankit then asked his friend Niraj Singh of Madhi village to accompany him to the girl’s village.
They left for Madhi on Niraj’s mobike on the night of December 3. Niraj made last call to his family after midnight and informed that he would return home by December 4 afternoon. However, when they did not return till December 5 and their mobiles were also found switched off, Niraj’s uncle Sunil Kumar Singh registered a case with Chandawak police.
However, the Jaunpur cops could not search the missing boys. On December 10 the family members and relatives of Niraj, including his brother-in-law Pravin Singh met Jaunpur SP Bablu Kumar after which police swung into action and the process of checking call detail records and others started. During this exercise, cops got the clue of the girl and a team of Jaunpur police reached Deoria.
Kumar said that Barhaj police in Deoria then took the girl under custody for interrogation and it came to light that Ankit and Niraj were beaten to death by her family members on December 4 and their bodies disposed of in the Ghaghra. She also divulged the names of her family members and relatives who were involved in killing the youths.
Deoria police took a brother-in-law of the girl under custody for interrogation and later Niraj’s motorcycle and shirt of Ankit with blood marks were recovered. The Deoria police also engaged divers to search for the bodies of killed youths but till Friday evening they were not found. PRO of Deoria SP said that Chandawak police has been asked to transfer the case to Barhaj police station for adding sections 302 and 201 (bid to remove evidence).
Deoria cops said that the outcome of their investigation is making it clear that the girl had come into contact with Ankit through social site. On the other had, Pravin said that Ankit has started interacting with the girl after getting a missed call from her.
