MENDHAR, Dec 12: The local administration today rescued 73 bonded labourers hailing from Bihar and working in a brick kiln at Galuta in Mendhar.
The contractor of these labourers after taking money from the owner escaped, leaving the workers in lurch. The owner of the kiln Mohd Jahangir Khan said that he paid Rs 1.80 lakh to the contractor which included the wages of the labourers. But he escaped after getting the amount and did not pay anything to them. The helpless workers contacted SDM and the SDPO Mendhar and sought support.
The administration then came to the rescue of these labourers and sent them back to Jammu on own expenses. The kiln owner said that he had already paid their wages. The Police said that a case has been registered against the contractor Babar Singh, son of Asha Ram, from UP in this connection.
