Interview with Michaela Bacon, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: It was really by chance that we got involved in this business. We stopped at Golden City Brewery for a beer and really enjoyed the environment. You had people from the university and surrounding neighborhoods coming together in a casual and welcoming way. Though none of us had previously owned a business of this type, we are all from the Midwest where neighborhood gathering places were commonplace. We left there knowing what we wanted the same thing for Castle Rock and we were driven to make it happen.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Maddie’s is unique because of the products we serve and environment we create. We don’t brew our own beer, which allows us to showcase the great beers of Colorado. We have 15 Colorado-made beers on tap; we are dedicated to spotlighting local beers, and we rotate them on a daily basis. Maddie’s is a great way to experience Colorado craft beers from all over the state without having to leave Castle Rock. Maddie’s was created with families and the community in mind. Castle Rock is made up of families that wanted a place where they could come together with friends and their kids. Whether listening to our live music performances or participating in weekly trivia, our customers are made up of all age groups.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: Our customers. Our customers have become our family and friends, which makes our job so much fun. There is also the great Colorado Craft Beer, too.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: We are constantly surprised by the number of people in our community who still don’t know we are part of downtown Castle Rock. Maddie’s is small place with an amazing outdoor garten area that, once discovered, will become a favorite place to visit.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Maddie’s was started by two best friends who knew nothing about beer.
