Bokaro/Dhanbad: Union home minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday if people of Jharkhand wanted development, they should “get rid of the weak government” and help BJP form a majority government.
Singh, who addressed two rallies in Bokaro and Dhanbad on Thursday, said, “In a democratic structure, change of government is not enough unless the working system is changed.
Congress failed to do in 10 years what BJP did in six months.”
At a time when rival parties are blaming BJP for bringing about little development in the state during its 10-year tenure, the Union minister said on Tuesday the then chief minister Arjun Munda found it difficult to perform in a coalition government. “All the important portfolios (in Munda’s cabinet) were with ministers of other alliance partners,” said Singh, who drew a larger crowd in the industrial town than any other BJP star campaigner who rallied for the party’s Bokaro candidate Biranchi Narayan.
Addressing an election rally at Bhuli, the largest workers’ colony in Asia, in Dhanbad, Singh said Jharkhand as a separate state was former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s dream that BJP had achieved after a long fight. “Atalji’s concern over Jharkhand’s development led to the formation of a separate state from Bihar,” said Singh.
Taking a dig at Congress, Singh said, “Even if part of the promises made by different leaders since Independence had been fulfilled, India would have been the world’s richest country.”
On the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, Singh said, “Six months ago India ranked 94th on transparency list and now we have climbed to 84th rank. It shows a major decline in corruption in such a short period of time. Going by the ambitious skill development programme, we will be able to generate employment that will have the potential to increase our GDP.”

“Our respect in the international forum has increased. The US that denied visa to Narendra Modi now gives a red carpet welcome to him,” he added.
Steps to solve the long-standing problems of miners at Bhuli would be taken if BJP is voted to power in Jharkhand, said the Union minister.
In yet another BJP rally in Maithon, minister of human resources Smriti Irani appealed to voters to cast vote for stability. Among the audience were a group of students from Indian School of Mines carrying posters and banners with their demand for IIT status to the institute. “The process of converting ISM to IIT has started and any more discussion on the matter could violate model code of conduct,” the minister said.
