Eddie Hearn has revealed he is close to making a blockbuster fight between Carl Froch and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

The Matchroom promoter will be in Las Vegas to watch Amir Khan take on Devon Alexander on Saturday and is hoping to meet Chavez Jr’s representatives in an effort to get the showdown signed and sealed.

Froch has not fought since his spectacular knockout win over George Groves at Wembley in May and has been vocal about his wish to see his name in lights in boxing's fight capital before he retires.

“Hopefully we get Froch-Chavez Jr made,” Hearn told Sky Sports News HQ. “Out there [Las Vegas] I’m trying to tie things up. We are looking at the end of March, potentially. It’s a great fight – Carl gets his Vegas fight.”

Chavez Jr is the son of iconic Mexican fighter Julio Cesar Chavez – a six-time world champion in three weight divisions – but is also a hugely accomplished fighter in his own right.

The 28-year-old, who has a 48-1-1 record, is a former WBC middleweight champion whose only career defeat came at the hands of Argentina's pound-for-pound great Sergio Martinez in 2012.

Chavez Jr has a huge following among the Mexican community in the United States and a win for Froch would give the British super-middleweight the career-crowning finale he desires.

Rematch

Hearn also revealed he is working on another big fight in the 12-stone division – a rematch between Groves and James DeGale.

“Just keep an eye out for DeGale against Groves,” Hearn added. “I think we are going to make that fight for the spring-summer. Again, major, major animosity between the two. First fight was good – let’s just keep the big fights rolling for Britain.”

Groves came out on top in the first fight between the pair in 2011 thanks to a razor-thin split decision and DeGale - also beaten by Groves as an amateur - has long campaigned for the opportunity to put the record straight.
