TOKYO -- A pair of idled reactors in Fukui Prefecture are set to pass safety checks by the nation's nuclear watchdog this year, with operator Kansai Electric Power hoping to restart them as early as spring.

The Takahama plant's No. 3 and No. 4 reactors will be the second facilities to clear the tightened safety standards put in place after the Fukushima disaster. Two reactors in Kagoshima Prefecture operated by Kyushu Electric Power have already passed the reviews.
