Deepan Chakravarthi shatters 400m mark

A. Deepan Chakravarthi of STC Pollachi sprinted his way to a new meet record in the men’s 400m on the penultimate day of the 33rd Bharathiar University inter-collegiate athletic meet at the Nehru Stadium here on Thursday.

The Pollachi student did not enjoy a great start but worked hard midway through to stop the clock at 48.1s, erasing his own mark of 49.7s set last year.

The 4x100m for both men and women turned out to be pretty close encounters. Dr. NGP College of Arts and Science edged out a fighting STC for the men’s gold and a new record, while PSGR Krishnammal squeaked past Nirmala College for the top spot in the women’s section.
