The long wait for the release of the Rajinikanth-starrer Lingaa is finally over. Fans across the State will throng theatres as early as 6 a.m. on Friday to watch ‘Thalaivar’ on screen.
The Rajinikanth Fans’ Association is preparing in a big way to usher in Lingaa . “We have erected huge cutouts and hung buntings outside a few major theatres in Bengaluru. We have released a Lingaa calendar on the occasion,” said Rajini Murugan, president of the Association.
With the release coinciding with Rajini’s birthday, his fans took up various activities a day in advance and distributed sweets and cut a cake.
A huge gathering of fans is expected at Urvashi, Nataraja and Movieland. The film is also being released in Rex on Brigade Road, Navarang in Rajaji Nagar, and Mukunda in Maruthi Nagar. “Tickets in all theatres for the next three days are booked,” said Mr. Murugan.
“After Padikkadavan , a Kannada producer has got the opportunity to produce a Rajini film,” he said, thanking Rockline Venkatesh, who produced the movie. Lingaa has another Karnataka connection. Pon Kumaran, who is from Tamil Nadu but has directed four films in Kannada, has written the story.
Though it is being said that the film is being released in over 50 theatres across the State, sources said the exact number of screens will be known only by Friday morning.
An industry source conceded that there was a possibility of screening more than five shows a day.
